This is at a short driving distance from Balanced Rock and is a short 1/2 mile hike. There is a parking lot at the trailhead here : http://shorturl.at/vzABV . Help protect the delicate vegetation that play an important role in maintaining the ecology by staying on designated trails.
Continue down this trail and be mindful of any slippery conditions. This 27 foot long Mesa Arch was created from the cliff due to freezing and thawing action of water as the temperature changes. Like many other hikes in this area this is also a short 1/2 mile hike that brings us some of the most spectacular views.
While it is very tempting to take the lots of amazing photos for social media please do not carried away and put yourself in harm's way. Exercise caution and make it a pleasant experience for you and others around you.
From here you can see a canyon with meandering streams created by the rain water run off that eventually join the Colorado river. As the Colorado river continues its journey it also welcomes Green River that merges with it not far from the arch in the south-west direction.
Aztec Butte is a historic hike that is in the near-by Canyonlands National park, follow this link to read more about it : https://www.hikeforfunandfitness.com/hikingdirections/Aztec-Butte
Lots of photographers reach this arch before sunrise to get the perfect sunrise photo with the natural frame made by the Mesa arch. I hope you enjoy the hike as much as I did. Stay safe! Hike for fun and fitness!
